Position Overview
The Associate Financial Advisor role works with the Personal Financial Planning team to provide financial planning and investment advice to the firm’s individual and family clients. They support the work of the Senior Financial Advisor by developing clients’ financial plans, attending and documenting client meetings, and interfacing with the client service team to deliver client service. The Associate Financial Advisor role is a developmental role with a successful candidate acquiring progressive responsibility as they demonstrate aptitude with the goal of progressing into a lead financial advisor role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide client service by attending client meetings
- Create client deliverables to prepare for client meetings
- Attend all personal financial planning client meetings for clients of the assigned consulting team
- Take meeting notes for each client meeting
- Summarize client meetings and communicate a summary to clients via email
- Interface with the centralized support services team to implement client decisions
- Document client meetings and interactions in activities and notes
- Initiate internal workflows
- Update CRM to reflect client decisions
- Maintain CRM with client changes
- Develop financial plans
- Gather and validate financial data to enter into the financial planning software
- Perform in-depth retirement, tax, and distribution planning for clients
- Maintain the financial planning system as clients' circumstances change
- Develop advisory skills to present standardized client deliverables
- Take progressive ownership in delivering standardized client deliverables to clients in client meetings
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in financial planning, finance, economics, or a similar degree
- 1+ year in the financial planning or wealth management industry
- Eligible and able to maintain active and valid U-4 registration in the State of Oregon within 90 days of hire
- U-4 registration requires passage of the FINRA Series 65 exam (or a combination of exams equivalent to a Series 65 exam)
- CFP® preferred. If not currently completed, it is expected that the Associate Financial Advisor will begin the CFP® coursework and attain the CFP® designation as part of their professional development
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial planning topics such as retirement planning, estate planning, and tax planning
Focus of Development
- Completion and attainment of the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) designation
- Servicing clients in support of the lead financial advisor
- Continuing development of technical knowledge in financial planning, tax planning, and investments
- Development of strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to guide the decision-making of clients
- Relationship management skills
- Delivering standard deliverables
