The Biotechnology Resource Center (BRC) is seeking a Research Scientist to serve as the Director for the Flow Cytometry core facility. This core was established through a $2,000,000 investment by the Provost and the Deans of various colleges, reflecting the campus commitment to state-of-the core facilities. The Flow Core facility supports research labs across the Cornell Ithaca campus and offers services to external institutions and companies. The main lab operations are in the Biotechnology Building on the Cornell Ithaca campus, and a satellite facility is located at the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Flow Cytometry core includes an array of sorters (FACSAria Fusion, FACSMelody, Sony MA900) and analyzers (Symphony A3, Symphony A5, ThermoFisher Attune NxTs) and is part of an innovative and collaborative group of core facilities within the BRC, with a mission to catalyze and promote research in life sciences.
The Director is responsible for leadership, management, and vision of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The Director collaborates with senior members of faculty, a facility advisory board, and other BRC directors to ensure a robust user community, innovative flow cytometry services and instrumentation. The Director is also responsible for expanding a robust user community among faculty researchers and keeping services and instrumentation at the cutting edge of flow cytometry science. This position leads a team of three technicians across two locations on the Ithaca campus.
The Biotechnology Resource Center (BRC) Flow Cytometry Facility Director is responsible for leadership and management of the BRC Flow Cytometry operations. The position includes personnel management; financial management; advanced user training and education; acquiring and maintaining a portfolio of advanced flow cytometry instrumentation and associated software; grant writing; and research project consultation with diverse academic users.

Qualifications for the Director position include a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science, or related field is required. The Director must have extensive knowledge of and a minimum of three years post-PhD experience, with five or more years of experience preferred, in flow cytometry and cell sorting instrumentation and related technologies, protocols, strategies, sample preparation, and data analysis. The Director must also have a demonstrated ability to work extensively with a broad range of academic users, including faculty, to provide research project consultation and advanced training for user groups. Other requirements include supervisory experience; experience with data-driven analysis and management for instrument usage, cost, and forecasting for cost recovery financial management; and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and keep instruments operating efficiently.
This position is a three-year term appointment renewable contingent upon continued funding and successful performance.
