Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 annual + benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, PTO)

Position Summary The Director of Events & Marketing is a senior leadership role responsible for setting the strategy, vision, and execution of Lovestruck’s public presence. This includes guiding a dynamic calendar of author and community events, managing budgets and vendor relationships, leading teams, and overseeing communication efforts across digital platforms and in-store channels.
Working closely with internal departments, this person will ensure every event, campaign, and social media initiative reflects Lovestruck’s organizational goals and brand identity. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive events and marketing strategies, overseeing all aspects of planning, budgeting, and execution, leading the events and marketing teams, Eventbrite management, overseeing content creation and distribution, analyzing performance data, and striving for continuous improvement. Through this work, the Director will play a key role in building brand awareness, driving community engagement, and advancing Lovestruck’s overall organizational and marketing objectives.
Requirements Strategic Leadership & Oversight
- Develop, regularly update, and execute a comprehensive events and marketing strategy that aligns with Lovestruck’s business goals, brand, and mission.
- Lead, train, and manage events and marketing teams, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and deliverables. Direct and delegate to store staff as needed.
- Ensure effective coherence and collaboration between events and marketing teams.
- Analyze performance data and identify opportunities for innovation, partnerships, and audience growth across events and communications.
- Stay current with industry trends and technologies and ensure that strategy and implementation are evolving appropriately.
Events
- Approve and monitor all event budgets and expenses including supplies, venues, author fees, staffing payroll, revenue streams, and quotes.
- Regularly review event grid pitches , update the events calendar, oversee events team email, approve/reject event requests, and offer strategic recommendations to guide expansion and success.
- Maintain and manage strong relationships with vendors, publishers, authors, and publicists, ensuring timely and professional communication and effective event pitches.
- Oversee flawless planning and execution of new events, offsite events, and pop-ups, including:
- Building and maintaining a vendor database
- Conducting venue and vendor research
- Managing run-of-show details
- Overseeing newsletters, event graphics, event grids, and Eventbrite launches
- Updating homepage and events page websites
- Managing contracts and agreements for external events
- Planning and executing events as needed, especially larger-scale events.
- Assist in follow-up and retention strategies post-event to reinforce engagement and value delivery.
- Work evenings and weekends as needed to attend and support events.
Marketing, Communications & Digital Media
- Manage social media team, including guiding strategy, generation, review, scheduling, and publication of social media content.
- Acting as the main point-of-contact with the PR agency, lead all aspects of public relations, including coordination of press releases and relations with media, influencers, industry leaders, and Lovestruck’s collaborations and partnerships. x
- Recognize when new assets are needed and coordinate with graphic designer to create and implement high-quality visuals.
- Lead and direct training to all staff about Lovestruck’s brand and marketing, including in-store signage, website, social media, event boards, and documentation.
- Oversee monthly and curated events newsletters, sourcing external outlets for additional event promotion.
- Coordinate with the café to ensure appropriate collaboration and marketing across all channels.
- Ensure all marketing deliverables, timelines, and expectations are met, including reviewing event marketing documents for timing, dates, pricing, logistics, ticketing, and accuracy.
Qualifications - Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in events, marketing, communications, or related fields; ideally with at least 3 years in a leadership/managerial role.
- Proficiency with platforms such as Eventbrite, social media management tools, and email marketing.
- Proven success managing teams and delivering measurable results in events and marketing.
- Extraordinary attention to detail and high expectations for quality of external-facing assets.
- Experience evaluating the effectiveness of programs and strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, on time and within budget.
- Exceptional organizational skills; thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft professional, engaging content and correspondence, aligned with specific brand identity.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and sustain professional relationships.
Nice To Have (but Not Required)- Experience in a bookstore, publishing, or literary/cultural organization.
- Familiarity with Greater Boston’s literary and cultural community.
- Graphic design, photography, or video editing skills.
- CRM, analytics, or SEO knowledge.
