Junior Graphic Designer (Regular, Full-Time)

Graphic Design

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Junior Graphic Designer is responsible for implementing the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s visual standards on various projects for print, the screen, and space. With guidance from the Creative Director, Associate Creative Director, and other team members the Jr. Graphic Designer would support the department and museum’s efforts on various projects relating to opening the David Geffen Galleries.

LACMA’s internal multidisciplinary graphic design department is an integral team in the museum’s mission of exhibiting a variety of art histories, presenting works from fresh and unexpected perspectives influenced by the region's vibrant cultural heritage and diverse population. The department is thoughtful, generous, and flexible with its approach in collaborating with artists, curators, technologists, and colleagues across the institution.

Responsibilities

  • With the guidance from the design team, conceives and executes a range of design projects—including environmental, digital, motion, and print that supports the activities of the museum.
  • Demonstrates strong self-motivation and initiative, as well as, the ability to take direction and work independently on multiple projects.
  • Participates in planning meetings with the Graphic Design department and other museum colleagues.
  • A generous team member who is comfortable collaborating, asking questions, and offers helpful feedback.
  • Develops several potential design directions for initial presentation and explains their design concept and process to colleagues.
  • Assists with the development of specifications for vendors, fabricators, and printers.
  • Shares work with colleagues and reports appropriately on progress using project management software.
  • Supports the work of other Graphic Designers, as needed.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance with a willingness to work five days on-site.

Benefits

  • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $25.00 - $27.00, subject to change.

Qualifications

  • Competent to work at an entry-level in most functions of Graphic Design.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Design or related field, and/or 1–2 years experience working in a design studio, ad agency, or similar setting.
  • Possess high level of attention to detail with strong organizational, listening, and communication skills.
  • A professional level of experience with Adobe Creative Suite (including After Effects) and a working familiarity with preparing design files for digital media and the web.
  • Previous experience in the following areas preferred: 2D and 3D environmental graphic design, digital and motion design, printing and fabrication of materials.
  • Strong design sensibility with an understanding of visual hierarchy and typography
  • Basic knowledge of motion design and digital production processes
  • Interest in art history and/or the history of graphic design
  • Commitment to staying current on design trends, tools, and best practices
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning and skill development in a dynamic creative environment.
