Description
A Medical Records Clerk plays a critical role in the healthcare industry by maintaining, organizing, and securing patient medical records. This position ensures that records are complete, accurate, and easily accessible to authorized personnel, supporting the smooth operation of healthcare facilities and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Organize and maintain electronic and physical medical records in compliance with organizational standards and HIPAA regulations
+ Monitor records for accuracy, completeness, and updates based on patient visits, diagnoses, and treatments.
+ Input medical data into relevant systems with precision, including patient demographics, admission dates, treatment types, and discharge information
+ Ensure all records are formatted properly and free of errors.
+ Retrieve medical records requested by authorized personnel promptly.
+ Prepare documents for patient requests, legal needs, or insurance audits following protocols.
+ Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information and ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and other privacy standards
+ Investigate and resolve discrepancies in medical records promptly.
+ Collaborate with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and insurance companies to gather required information.
+ Assist in preparing reports for internal audits or regulatory reviews.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree or certification in medical office administration preferred).
+ Proficiency in medical terminology and electronic health records (EHR) software (Source: MC24 Job Search Guide US eBook).
+ Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
+ Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality practices.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
+ Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare facility is a plus.
