PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

ROLE SUMMARY

The Project Accountant will provide financial management support for multiple projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring budgets, preparing financial reports, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with contractual and client requirements. In addition, the Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers and Project Administrators. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers and senior leadership.

EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and track project budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
  • Prepare and analyze project financial reports for internal review and client submission.
  • Process client billings and subcontractor/vendor invoices in accordance with company policies and contract requirements.
  • Assist Division Managers with budget forecasting and cost-to-complete analysis.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project accounting records in the company’s financial systems.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms, regulatory standards, and company accounting practices.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other industry-related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably project accounting experience within the AEC industry (Architecture/Engineering/Construction)
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency with financial software (e.g., Unanet, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP).
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong coordination skills
  • 3.0 GPA minimum

PREFERRED

  • M.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other industry-related field from an accredited university
  • Experience with QuickBooks
  • Residence within the Chicagoland area
