The Role 

AIIR has an exciting and important opportunity for the right person to join our Intelligent
HVAC Systems engineering and product development team to design and commercialize
our own unique, purpose-built HVAC systems as an Embedded Firmware Engineer or as a
Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (depending on experience and expertise). This is a
hands-on and highly visible opportunity in a rapidly growing and evolving company with lots
of room to grow! We are seeking a person with 8+ years demonstrated experience with
embedded systems design particularly power electronics.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop embedded firmware in C for various microcontroller-based systems particularly for power electronics systems
  • Develop code in bare-metal embedded environments
  • Develop and validate firmware integration with hardware and validate in a full system
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and solve problems on hardware-firmware interactions in systems
  • Perform hardware-firmware simulations as necessary in the development of the embedded code development
  • Build use cases/test cases and debug in an integrated full system environment
  • Define, design, document, test, and debug hardware-firmware interfaces
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in software/firmware design approaches and implementation in embedded systems
  • Perform technical analysis of product features, recommending best-practice technical solutions
  • Participate in the product definition, especially around the aspects of the embedded components, attempting to resolve ambiguity into concrete technical proposal

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering required
  • 8+ years of software development experience, with at least 5+ years of
    demonstrable experience in implementing software solutions on embedded systems
    for power electronics drives preferably for HVAC systems
  • 5+ years' experience with embedded C development for microcontrollers
  • Experience working on embedded firmware development for AC-DC, DC-DC, and
    DC-AC power converters.
  • Experience working on embedded firmware for FOC for motor control desired
  • Experience working with digital control of PFC desired
  • Desirable to have prior experience with a variety of microcontrollers including TI,
    ESP among others
  • Hands-on experience with debugging firmware and hardware-firmware interfaces
    using appropriate interface tools
  • Experience with various bus interfaces, SPI, i2c, UART, Ethernet, and GPIO and
    others
  • Experience with debugging kernel, OS and application software via both user-level
    IDE and hardware-based JTAG interfaces
  • Good understanding of technologies such as BLE, Wi-Fi, power management,
    sensor control, USB, UART, I2C, and various bus communication technologies.
  • Experience with current microprocessor devices and technologies including ARM
    SOCs, flash, and memory.
  • Experience with developing code in RTOS desired
  • Ability to participate in a highly collaborative environment, with both on-site and
    remote contributors
  • Experience with aspects of developing an embedded device, including BSP, general
    device lifecycle, firmware updating, radio stacks including Bluetooth, Bluetooth
    Mesh, Wi-Fi and others, sensor data collection, etc.
  • Working level knowledge of Linux and Linux operating system
