Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Horseshoe Lake State Park. This position will: operate trucks, tractors, backhoes, tree spades, stump cutters for road repairs: participate in site renovation/construction projects; perform basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs; participate in the camping and hunter program collecting fees and selling camping permits; make trail repairs, mow grass, and clean and disinfect restrooms. Horseshoe Lake State Park is situated in a low flood plain that follows the Mississippi River to the Kentucky border. Horseshoe Lake State Park accommodates 26 tent or trailer campsites. Patrons can picnic, fish, boat, camp, hunt and hike. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, participates in the maintenance and improvements to all site structures, facilities, grounds, trails, waterways, marinas, wildlife habitats, and day use areas at Horseshoe Lake State Park
• Maintain site vehicles and equipment
• Participates in grounds maintenance 
• Participates in site operations including camping and hunting programs
• Maintain building interiors
• Assists in implementing safety and security at the site
• On an intermittent or seasonal basis, provides leadership and direction to volunteers, seasonal employees, and other staff
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulation.

• Ability to pass background check
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification
• Ability to obtain pesticide/herbicide operator's license within 6 months of employment
• Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
• Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain

The Office of Land Management (OLM) oversees nearly 400 individual parcels of land and institutes a wide variety of programs and activities advocating outdoor recreation through sustainable use, conservation, and preservation. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Work Hours: Sun. - Thurs. 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM w/ 1/2 hr lunch, off Friday and Saturday. Late October to late December would be the same days off, but 4:00 AM - noon shift to cover duck season.
