Primary Objective:  In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose of primary objective of this position.

Trains and has advance skills. Operates assigned set of looms, producing first quality backing at expected rate of efficiency.  Weavers will visually inspect the finished fabric and make quality determinations. Will perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Major Function and Scope: Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function of responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.

1. At start of shift: record yardage, date, and employee number on Weavers Fabric Identification Record on each assigned loom.
2. Mark fabric with quality identifier as instructed.
3. Cycles assigned looms monitoring fabric for quality defects and loom malfunctions.
4. Watch for looms down, determine cause, repair stop and restart loom as quickly as possible.
5. For mechanical problems: flag loom (stepping up onto skid resistant area of take up if necessary), record issue on flag card, enter data in monitoring system (BARCO) if loom is down and turn fixer light on.
6. As fill yarn is consumed, replace empty fill yarn tubes with fill yarn package.
7. Check looms for warps that will warp out during the shift.  At warp out fill out applicable forms, put up all flags, put in BARCO and turn on light.
8. Put doffs on “Doff Board” and turn on light, as required.
9. Measure warps, calculate yardage and complete split doff sheet, as required.
10. Complete Short Roll form, as needed.
11. Complete Weavers Fabric Identification Record for all doffed rolls of fabric.
12. Record defects and issues with fabric on Weaver Fabric Identification Record.
13. If a defect occurs, take appropriate action per “Primary Backing Specification” sheet.
14. If loom is producing off quality, the weaver has the authority to stop the loom and should consult the supervisor for guidance.
15. If a shuttle jam occurs, flag the loom for a fixer to repair the jam. Weavers do not fix shuttle jams.
16. If a defect can be mended, either mend the defect at the loom or insert yellow card, and send to table. If questionable ask the supervisor.
17. Draws reeds when assigned by the supervisor.
18. May operate the QA Table if cross trained.
    1. Obtain an identified defective roll of fabric, placing it on the loading table using a powered industrial truck, if trained. If not trained to operate a powered industrial truck, ask a material coordinator to place roll of fabric on the loading table.
    2. Performs fabric inspection based on documented acceptance criteria.
    3. Observes fabric for defects such as broken picks, slubs, stripbacks, untucked selvages, etc. and repairs mendable defects.  Records number of defects each one hundred (100) yards.
    4. Alerts the shift Supervisor/Department Manager and manufacturing of any quality problems observed during inspection of rolls being ticketed or inspected.
    5. Thread and use sewing machine and change needle in sewing machine.
    6. Other required procedures: count picks per inch, measure width of fabric, and starting machine.
    7. Records vital information on all rolls sent to the inspection table to enable follow-up.
    8. Makes a 6th quality ticket and after determining fabric quality, records and makes a finished ticket using correct procedure.
    9. After completing inspection, excess tails are removed using clippers, a finished ticket is attached to the end disc.  The end disc is placed on the core and secured with a wire tie.
    10. Using a powered industrial truck transports roll of fabric from the inspection table to the strapping table. 
    11. Distributes appropriate forms/papers.
19. General Duties
    1. Participate in Safety programs and Neighborhood Watch.
    2. Works safely and orderly.
    3. Notify supervision of any hazardous or unsafe conditions.
    4. Maintains clean and orderly work area.
       1. Keep grease and yarn off FA and SU side of loom.  Keep yarn and grease off catwalk and floor.  All yarn waste must go inside the string waste can at loom.
    5. Perform all necessary miscellaneous work pertaining to the above job duties.
    6. Any other duties assigned by management.
    7. Shows good leadership
    8. Has good attendance
    9. Has to train when asked to at anytime.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work assigned schedule. Ability to perform logical and mathematical calculations.  Ability to learn job specific computer skills. Ability to learn standard weaving procedures and apply principles to different types of looms. Ability to identify and communicate machine malfunctions. Ability to visually recognize quality defects in fabric.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to shift supervisor/department manager, but works with minimum amount of supervision.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Limited to personal activities required to perform duties of job.

Competencies:  Describe the specific skills required for this position in terms of technical, managerial, interpersonal skills and unique abilities.

• Must maintain high standards for work quality and safety.
• Must be a self-starter and be able to move from one task to another without direction.
• Must be able to prioritize, stay organized and focused to manage a set of more than twenty looms.
• Must be able to work independently and continue working without interrupting others.
• Must be able to work and communicate effectively with other members of the Weaving team, including Loom Fixers and other Technicians, Warp Changers, and Material Coordinators.
• Must be able to read and follow directions and work procedures.
• Basic computer knowledge to enter declarations into computer monitoring system (BARCO). 
• Ability to trouble shoot and take steps to correct quality issues and maximize efficiency.
• Ability to perform detailed work with yarn, including placing ends correctly through a series of small openings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Frequency – Amount – Description)

STANDING / WALKING:

Ability to stand and walk continuously for up to twelve (12) hours daily.

SITTING: N/A

MOVING SELF:

Ability to move about assigned work area continuously in a twelve (12) hour shift.

CLIMBING:

Ability to step on/off catwalk, as needed, during a twelve (12) hour shift.

MOVING (MATERIALS): (Lifting – carrying – pushing – pulling)

Pushing/pulling – Push, don’t pull any (movable type) equipment.  

Lifting/carrying – Ability to lift and carry full fill yarn packages continually during a twelve (12) hour shift.  Lift up to fifty (50) pounds without mechanical assistance.  Get help when needed.

HEARING / SPEAKING:

Must be able to communicate with co-workers and management as needed to perform job duties.

REACHING:

Vertical – Ability to reach full arms extension to perform job duties.

Horizontal – Ability to reach full arms extension to perform job duties.

VISUAL ACUITY:

Must have adequate normal, color vision and depth perception to perform job duties.  Ability to utilize both near and far vision while performing job duties.  Must have the ability to repair yarn breaks, thread yarn through small openings, repair ends out and recognize quality defects.

BENDING / STOOPING:

Ability to bend, squat, stoop and kneel throughout a twelve (12) hour shift, as needed to perform job duties.

MENTAL ABILITIES:

Ability to make decisions regarding work priorities.  Ability to recognize quality defects, loom problems and record information correctly on designated forms.  Ability to learn job related computer skills.

OTHER:

Fingering – Ability to demonstrate good tactile discrimination and functional sensation. Ability to thread yarn through small openings

Medium motor manipulation – Ability to use scissors and reed hook to perform job duties.

Fine motor coordination - Ability to tie knots.  Ability to enter job related data in computer system.

Grip – Ability to grip hand tools, start handle and fill yarn packages.  Ability to utilize both a one handed and a two-handed grip.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Must wear hearing protection, Comfortable shoes , and safety glasses with permanent side shields when in the warehouse and production areas.  Must adhere to plant clothing and footwear policy.  Wear personal protective equipment as required by task at hand.

MACHINE, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:

Looms, scissors, reed hook, plastic hook, pen/pencil, clipboard, package holder, comb, pouch, apron, and clips.

MATERIALS USED:

Warp yarn, fill yarn, pen/pencil, and paper.
