Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking nature loving, safety minded leaders who want to spend the summer days outdoors and guide the adventures of our summer campers. Our Elks Day Camp has horseback riding, rock climbing, archery, swimming, hiking and more on tap. We'll explore wildlife, waterways, plants and all of the outdoors. We are going to get dirty, have fun and explore our natural world.

Salary range $14.42-17/hr based on experience, qualifications and availability. In addition, we offer a +10% differential for bilingual staff who test as fluent in Spanish and English. Staff working more than 10 hours per week may sign up their children or siblings for free YMCA camp too! More about this in the benefits section.

Shifts vary between 7:00am and 5:30pm M-F. Part time and full time summer seasonal positions are available up to 40 hours a week. No weekends (except one required weekend training May 19th)! This position is seasonal June 3rd through July 26th with training May 20-24th and we anticipate openings for the school year in our before and after school programs.

Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision of another staff person, the Program Aides works as part of our site team to ensure a safe and challenging environment for our summer camp participants implementing our core values, gym and group games, arts and crafts. Additional j ob responsibilities include:

  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents and records
  • Be on time for all shifts; be flexible to accommodate unexpected schedule changes, including full days .
Qualifications:

Applicants must be committed to being a positive role model with youth. Must have the ability to work well on a team, communicate easily with youth, parents and colleagues and be committed to implementing YMCA programming and fun. Additional qualification includes:

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years old
  2. Knowledge of age-appropriate practices and experience working with children, preferably school aged Maturity to make practical decisions under the direct supervision of other staff
  3. Ability to work well in a team, communicate easily with youth, parents and colleagues and be committed to implementing YMCA programming and fun.
  4. Bilingual preferred, not required
  5. Applicants must be committed to being a positive role model with youth.
