The Vermont Department of Health is currently seeking to hire a Public Health Analyst in the Research, Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit, Health Statistics and Informatics Division at the Vermont Department of Health. This analyst will be responsible for analyzing data related to tobacco use and cardiovascular disease in Vermont, working with the Tobacco Control Program and Heart Disease Programs.
The analyst conducts statistical analysis at a professional level, involving complex epidemiological and geospatial analyses. Duties include selection of statistical and epidemiological methodology, data analysis, performance measure monitoring, report preparation and presentations. This analyst is expected to: conduct epidemiologic analyses of public health, geographic and demographic data; provide interpretation of data; write reports, summaries and briefing documents; give data-related presentations; maintain statewide and sub-state level web-based data reporting; respond to internal and external data requests; perform Geographic Information System (GIS) and spatial analysis; provide technical assistance regarding the utility and meaning of the data; and support annual grant writing and reporting. Performs related duties as required.
Applicants should have a strong interest in improving data quality and producing accessible data reports. They should be motivated to become the Department's subject matter expert in Tobacco Control and Heart Disease surveillance and creatively use the data sources available to understand populations at high risk.
The position operates under the Research, Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit Chief and the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Analytic Team Lead. All analysts are expected to work on multiple teams, including the Unit, the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Analytic Team, the programs they support and special topic workgroups. Expertise in Microsoft Office, statistical analysis software (SAS, R, SPSS, etc.), and GIS software (ArcGIS Pro) is required. Contact with community partners, VDH program staff, and other key partners will also be required. This opportunity is full-time, based in Waterbury, VT and is supportive of a hybrid/flexible work environment.

Master's degree or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or a social sciences discipline, including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level.
OR
Bachelor's degree in statistics, a health-related or social sciences discipline, including 12 college credits in statistics, research or computer sciences, and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
OR
Associate’s degree in a public health, health, scientific or informatics field AND two (2) years or more of experience in research, statistics, informatics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
Experience in public health or a health-related field.
Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, statistics, or related social sciences discipline, including at least six credits in statistics.
